What can mindfulness do for me?
I can give you hundreds of different definitions of what mindfulness is. But the truth is, it will mean something entirely different to you than to me or any expert out there.
What I can do is share what mindfulness has done for me and can for you.
The most common benefit of mindfulness practice is the state of internal peace. You often hear it used as a convincing argument for test driving meditation. And it's true, it allows for our nervous system to relax and regulate. It gives us the tools to better cope with the stress and anxiety. But remember, it is not a magic pill, you have to keep practicing.
Mindfulness allows us to hear our intuition loud and clear. This is my personal favorite side effect. We all have two voices inside us, the ego and the intuition. The ego is the victim, judge, strickler, avoider, people pleaser, and all those other negatives. The intuition is your sage, the wise, positive, and uplifting voice that is often lost and overpowered. Mindfulness aligns us with the best version of ourselves by bringing forth the sage and pushing the ego aside. This benefit alone makes it all worth it for me.
The last benefit I would like to talk about is a more permanent one. Mindfulness causes a positive shift in consciousness. It allows us to see the world around us through a different lens. This lens is tinted with more love, joy, and connectedness. If you feel like something is missing, but you can't pinpoint what it is…turn to mindfulness. It will feel like coming home and finding yourself again. It will change you.
Has there ever been a more perfect time to begin this practice? Let me rephrase, isn't it precisely what we need right now?
